The department was founded to serve families and communities, achieve development, provide a better lifestyle, and work on enhancing home environmental conditions through:
- Preparing graduates through continuous education systems that are suitable for departments’ students, as to achieve communication between academic education and social and community needs.
- Providing guidance services and educational research that will enable them from solving their problems, using self-resources, preserving their health, applying results of scientific research, and taking advantage of technological development promotion, as to enhance lifestyle and promote family and community lifestyle.
Vision
The department is targeting to enrich students with knowledge, skills, creativity, and re-innovation in the field of Home Economics, which enables the student from doing their deeds successfully and with a high level of professionalism that helps them to serve the community and continue research and studies of sustainable development.
Mission
Home Economics Department enriches teachers with scientific knowledge, methods, and scientific and applied technicalities, in addition, to raise the integration level between theoretical and applied branches. Moreover, it qualifies the teacher to be productive and to be a scientific and educational researcher who is able to serve the community.
Goals
- To strengthen, develop, and enhance family life, through educating family life methods, in addition, to strengthening the family ties in the urban and countryside.
- To help families to achieve their goals, equip family members with needed abilities to confront any unexpected circumstances, and increase family resources and affairs management.
- To enhance health status, according to age categorization among all citizens.
- To work on narrowing the nutritional gap, through rationalizing family consumption.
- To understand and study social and economic factors, which may affect members’ life.
- To contribute to general awareness for community members and to contribute to solving the problems.
- To look forward to a better life, along with available abilities.
- To apply research results and to take advantage of technological developments in enhancing lifestyle and promoting family life, in addition, to simplifying housework.

Faculty of Education, Suez Canal University, grants the student a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics Specialization. The education period is 4 years, in order to earn Bachelor's degree.
The department provides the student with courses that tackle: styling, knitting, fancywork, feeding, and home management topics.
Terms of Acceptance:
In order to be registered in the Faculty of Education, Suez Canal University, Students must be:
- Meet all acceptance conditions, defined by the Supreme Council of Universities.
- To be totally free for education.
- To pass all aptitude tests assigned by the faculty, for example:
- Interview for the student
- Abilities test
- Medical test
Education Period
- The education period inside the faculty to earn Bachelor's degree is 4 years and divided into two stages. The first stage is divided into 1st and 2nd academic years and the Second stage is divided into 3rd and 4th academic years.
- The academic year is divided into two semesters. The period for each of them is 17 weeks; (15) educational weeks and (2) weeks for exams.
- The student is not shifted to 2nd year if he did not pass all courses. In case of failure in one course or more, the student takes the exam in the 2nd round.
- The student is shifted from 1st year to 2nd then to 3rd then to 4th, in case he succeeds in all courses, but if the student failed in one course or more, the student takes the exam in the 2nd round.
- The education language in all divisions is Arabic except in foreign divisions (English- French).
- The education language of English specializations is English.
- Educational courses’ education language is Arabic in all divisions, except in foreign divisions, which will be with its language. As for scientific specializations, the education language is English.
- The student is obliged to attend 75% of scientific and theoretical courses.
- The written exam period is two hours and three hours for long periods of courses.
- A student who failed in field training will fail in the academic year.
- The final grade is calculated according to the grade total average during the 4 years.
Grading system:
- Excellent: 100% to 90%
- Very Good: 90% to 80%
- Good: 80% to 70%
- Accepted: 70 to 60%
- Weak: 60% to 40%
- Very week: less than 40%
Faculty of Education, Suez Canal University, offers different degrees, such as:
- Diploma degree
- Master’s degree
- Ph.D. degree
Education system:
The student is allowed to register in spring or fall time semesters, with a maximum of 20 credit hours per semester. It is allowed for the student to register in the summer semester, with a maximum of 9 hours. Registration hours are not considered with research paper registration.
Terms of Acceptance:
- Students must be a holder of Bachelor's degrees from known universities.
- Students much are matching scientific department conditions and get approval from the department’s council and faculty’s council.
- Students must submit all documents required to postgraduate and research administration.
- Student registration is not taken into consideration, only after paying all fees.
- The student who doesn’t finish all registration procedures, before the end of 2nd week of the fall semester or summer semester, or 1st week of the summer semester, is not allowed to attend lectures.
- 2 laboratories for nutrition and food sciences.
- 2 laboratories for clothes and texture.
- Home and children management laboratory.
